ARQUA' PETRARCA

Arquà Petrarca is a small village, which preserve the unchanged glamour of medieval time and it is considered the pearl of the Euganean Hills. Arquà has been inhabited since the Roman times, and gained more importance when Francesco Petrarca, one of the highest poet of the Italian tongue, wished to spend the last years of his life in the serene quietness of the place. The village still preserve his house and the grave with his mortal remains. The memory of the poet favoured in the successive centuries the spring up of a lot of houses and Venetian villas, which constitute today the artistic and architectural heritage property, worthy to be visited and revisited.

The village, between the Euganean Hills, described as "mine second Elicone", from the Poet was the place in which Petrarca decided to build for him a modest and decent house, where to spend in peace the last years of his life. The house and the natural environment that surround it, nearly unbroken from the times of the Poet, during centuries attracted thousands of visitors.
The recent interventions, which aimed to the preservation and to the exploitation of the historical and naturalistic property, produced their fruits and today the town of Arquà Petrarca have been admitted to the limited club of the more Attractive Villages of Italy “Borghi più Belli d'Italia “and received the election for the Orange Flag “Bandiera Arancione “of the Italian Touring Club.
